Travel Guide: Flavors of Thailand

Thailand is one of the most famous Asian countries that has notable cuisine because of its undeniably raw and tasty flavors. Here, I'll start with the most important thing that you have to know about Thai food—they're mostly spicy!

And because I'm not the spicy kind of person, I was hesitant to try most of the Thai cuisine and opted for the safe ones a.k.a. fast food. But lo and behold, the meals at fast food chains are spicy even the ones that they gave me when I asked for something that's "not spicy at all."

It's a different kind of spice; it's like it's gonna burn your tongue and release hot air from your ears. Anyway, so what I tried there were the street foods and the ones that are soft-flavored.

Mango Sticky Rice

One of the most famous street foods in Thailand is this dessert (that could actually pass as a meal itself.) It has, of course, mangoes and sticky rice covered in coconut milk. Mango sticky rice was the one I really look forward to so here, I tried two variants: the fancy and the street version. So which is best? To me, the street mango sticky rice wins!

Price: 50-120 baht

Coconut Ice Cream

This is made up of coconut ice cream placed in a coconut shell and sometimes topped with treats like chocolate sauce, rice crispies, peanuts, and more. This dessert is perfect for the hot weather of the country.

Price: 60-100 baht

Thai Spring Rolls

This is, by far, the Thai food that I enjoyed the most. It's absolutely and surprisingly (because I'm not a fan of Thai food) delicious! It's so different from the Philippines' spring rolls. Both are yummy but this one has its unique taste. Also, it's very cheap so it's a win-win for you!

Price: 30-50 baht

Pork Satay

This is a popular street food in Thailand. It can also be served as a main dish. It's made of thin-cut pork meat with coconut milk and paired with peanut sauce.

Price: 25 baht

Thai Fried Rice

The best one, I must say! Thai fried rice is very rich in flavor.

Price: 50 baht

Fried Quail Eggs

Another famous street food is this. Basically, it tastes like egg, obviously, just a bit smaller.

Price: 50 baht

What I missed from my trip: trying the famous Pad Thai and Tom Yum! One thing I realized, I enjoyed the food more from the cheap stores. So to cap it all, you'll find the best Thai food not in fancy restaurants but in the street or outskirts of Thailand.
