Is There A Way to Treat Dandruff?

Sunday, May 21, 2017

One of the most embarrassing things to admit is having dandruff. No one really talks about it, but it's one that almost all of us will experience at some point in our lives.

I hate to admit it but I've been struggling with itchy and flaky scalp since high school. I'm not a firm believer of TV advertisements but in the hopes of being treated, trust me, I've already tried several anti-dandruff shampoos, thinking it would be gone for good. The result, it got worse.

Perhaps because of experimenting with different shampoos? But really, the question still lies, can dandruff be treated?

Unfortunately, no. That's what the experts say. But, the good thing is you can control it. There are many natural remedies you may try. But if you want clinically proven treatments, go for over-the-counter dandruff shampoos.

Right now, I am using Selsun Blue. It is an over-the-counter shampoo that contains 1% concentration of selenium sulfide, which is the right amount to treat dandruff while leaving the hair healthy and more manageable.

Selenium sulfide stops the accumulation of scaly dandruff particles and reduces redness and itching from seborrheic dermatitis on the scalp. It is anti-infective and anti-fungal, and guaranteed by the United States’ Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as effective in slowing down the rate of skin cell death and turnover. It also prevents fungus and bacteria from growing on the skin.

PROS

  1. It feels cool on your scalp
  2. It lessens the itchiness
  3. It's effective

CONS

  1. I don't like their packaging. To me, it looks like the one you use to clean bathrooms. Perhaps, they can improve it to look more suitable for a shampoo product?
  2. The scent is very strong, especially the medicated with menthol

All in all, I must say, it's working for me and I'm loving it.
